Summary Session 2 - Second WFNS Rabat Reference Center-Mohammed V University Souissi Course for African Neurosurgeons - June 12-15, 2008

SESSION 2

The first lecture of this session commenced at 14.35pm and lasted till 14.50pm. The lecture was delivered by J. Lrhezzioui (Rabat, Morocco). He described the surgical anatomy of the posterior cranial fossa including the cerebellum, the brainstem and cerebellopontine angle.

 

The second lecture commenced at 14.50pm and lasted till 15.15pm. It was delivered by A. El Ouahabi (Rabat, Morocco). He described the technical details of Sub-occipital retrosigmoid approach including indications, positioning of the patient (semi-prone or lateral, and sitting); advantages and disadvantages of each of the positions was discussed.

 

The Third lecture started at 15.20pm and ended at 15.40pm. It was delivered by L. Rifi (Rabat, Morocco). She described the detailed surgical anatomy of the nasal fossa and sphenoid sinus.

 

The fourth and final lecture in this session started at 15.40pm and lasted till 16.00pm. The lecture was delivered by A. El Khamlichi (Rabat, Morocco). He described the technical details of transphenoidal approach, the historical background, the pitfalls and difficulties of the approach.

 

Question and answer session followed each presentation

 

Hands on cadaveric demonstrations commenced at 16.08pm and lasted till 18.00pm. A. El Ouahabi conducted the demonstration of retrosigmoid approach while L. Rifi did the demonstration of Transsphenoidal approach.
